Fiction Book Group, 2024

The FPC Fiction Book Group is a recently formed group that reads and discusses a work of fiction each month on the fourth Thursday morning of the month and is open to anyone who is interested! The next gathering will be Thursday, May 23rd at 10am at the church. Our next book to discuss will be Tom Lake by Ann Patchett.

Presbyterian Women Book Study 

"Sacred Encounters" by Olive Mahabir is the Horizon’s Bible study for 2023-24. Anyone interested in participating with women of the church is invited to attend one of the groups that will meet:

On the third Sunday of each month, the Sarah Circle group will meet, (beginning September 17th) at 12:30pm in CE Room 220.

There will be a hybrid group meeting in Kerygma Room and on Zoom on the second Monday of each month at 12:30pm, beginning September 11th.

If you are interested in one of these options, please visit the church office. If you are already participating and would like a study book, they can be found in the church office. A donation of $10 to cover the book cost is appreciated.

Tuesday Study and Prayer Group

A study of Neighbors: Christians and Muslims Building Community by Deanna Ferry Womack will begin on April 9, 2024 in the Tuesday Study and Prayer Group.  Rev Womack is a PCUSA pastor and educator.

For a long time, American Christians have been hearing a story about Islam. It's a story about conflict and hostility, about foreigners and strangers. At the heart of this story is a fundamental incompatibility between the two religions going all the way back to their original encounters. According to that story, the only valid Christian response to Islam is resistance.

But it's time to tell a different―and truer―story. Christians and Muslims have not always fought or lived in fear of each other. Christian communities in majority-Muslim countries have coexisted with their Muslim neighbors for centuries. More importantly, Muslims have been part of the American story from its beginning. And like their Christian neighbors, Muslims want to make the community in which they live a better place for all citizens. In Neighbors, Deanna Ferree Womack lays the groundwork for members of the two religions to understand, converse, and cooperate with each another. With models for cultivating empathy and interfaith awareness, Christians can move from neighborly intention to real dialogue and common action with Muslims in the United States.
